FLORENCE

Florence is located on Arno river. World famous for its extraordinary monuments and art collections, for being the cradle of Italian language and literature and starting point of great movements of Humanism and Renaissance, today boasts very important historical archives, libraries and Universities.

PISA

Pisa seems to be the most ancient of the maritime cities of Italy. In every epoch Pisa had had a important role in the historical events. During the Renaissance Pisa was second only to Florence, and Medici family enriched it with many works of art. Today it hosts one of the most important Universities in Italy and many monuments, the most famous of which is the Hanging Tower, one of the most representative of Italian architecture.

SIENA

Founded by Etruscan, then Roman colony, Siena lay on three hills between Arbia's and Elsa's sources. It's an industrial and agricultural centre, rich of works of art and monuments; in Siena is held the famous "Palio". Mangia's Tower, "Piazza del Campo", and city hall are a must see.

GREVE IN CHIANTI

Located between Florence and Siena, its roads kept it in touch with Arno river valley where many important markets were located; therefore was built the "mercatale di Greve" in the middle of an inhabited area, rich of feudal villages and castles.

MONTESPERTOLI

Montespertoli county is 125 square Km large, and it's considered one of Tuscan capitol cities of wine, due to its vineyards, cellars and Chianti Exhibition. Bread and oil are also very typical products of this county. Points of great interest are: Sacred Art Museum in S. Piero in Mercato's parish, Sonnino's Castle, Montegufoni's Castle and typical medieval village of Lucardo.

VOLTERRA

Typical city in Pisa district, built on the top of a hill between Era's and Cecina's valleys, it's encircled by a town-wall and it's a very important centre for the presence of Etruscan, Roman and medieval monuments.

LUCCA

Located on the left bank of Serchio river, encircled by the famous walls, built between 1504 and 1645 and still untouched today, Lucca boasts medieval monuments of greats interest.

SAN GIMIGNANO

Founded by Etruscan and named "VELATHRI", called "SILVIA" by the Romans, and at last named by Longobards after "San Geminiano", the Modena bishop who saved the city from barbarian invasion. Art and culture accompanied S. Gimignano during the ages, testified by a room in the Podestà Palace, which mentions Dante Alighieri who arrived in S. Gimignano as ambassador of the Guelph League in Tuscany.

VINCI

Vinci city was first Etruscan, then Roman. It's named after "VINCO", the name of trees whose branches are used to bond vines. Vinci is world famous for being the birthplace of Leonardo Da Vinci (born on 1452). You can visit the Ideal Museum of Leonardo da Vinci, dedicated to art and utopias of Leonardo, and "Museo Leonardiano" hosted in the castle halls.

CERTALDO

Certaldo developed during last centuries along Elsa river and Agliena torrent. There are interesting monuments to see: Bocaccio's Home, where famous 14th century novelist lived during the last years of his life, the library which collects thousand of books about Boccaccio, the castle and magisterial building.

AREZZO

Is an important tourist centre, famous for "la giostra del Saracino", an ancient chivalry contest, and for an important antique fair. Of Etruscan origin, then Roman city rich of monuments (the ruins of Roman amphitheatre). The medieval city centre's streets, flanked by 15th century buildings, make Arezzo very characteristic.

MONTALCINO

Characteristic village on a hill between Ombrone's and Asso's valleys, it's an important agricultural centre in panoramic location, renowned especially for its wine production.
